Face Oils Roundup – Winter 2016-2017

I was going to start this post with a declaration of love for face oils but then I remembered my friend who uses coconut oil for 90% of her skincare, body, hair, and teeth cleansing routine and thought ehh maybe my feelings are more along the lines of strong like.

Regardless, I have dry skin, which means it naturally doesn’t produce very much oil, so oils are useful for me. I also find them to be extremely versatile and easily incorporated in many different ways, such as:

  • Applied directly to skin
  • Adding a few drops to thinner cleansing oils to facilitate / prolong a deep oil massage before rinsing
  • Applied under a sheet mask
  • Mixed with emulsions or creams
  • On especially cold and windy days, I will sometimes apply multiple layers of moisturizer with a thin application of oil between each layer, which helps my skin absorb the multiple, thicker layers
  • Dotted around the eyes in place of eye cream

Yuri Pibu Cucu Maronza (Black Truffle) Serum Review

Following the success I had with the Yuri Pibu Artichoke Power Essence, I wanted to try more things from the brand so I did some research and zeroed in on this truffle serum. Like the artichoke essence, the truffle serum contains a cool mix of ceramides and cholesterol. Unlike the artichoke essence, it comes in packaging that isn’t frustratingly stupid. Unfortunately, the packaging was the only thing about this serum that I liked better than the Artichoke essence. Let’s take a closer look.

Sakura Kokoro Beauty Essence Review

There is no shortage of Asian beauty products with really, really long names and so it’s nice to find a product called something a little simpler! This serum is simply called “Beauty Essence” and is what we’re looking at today. Let’s take a look!

Ippin -New Japanese E-Commerce Site- Introduction and Window Shopping

When Ippin reached out to me back in November, I was super stoked for a few reasons. For example,

  • Their selection of products looked really interesting. They have FlowFushi, Kate, Acseine, which are all brands I recognize from the Cosme best-of lists but have never tried
  • Their prices seemed very competitive for the few items I was familiar with. For example,  they have the Canmake stay on balm rouges with no markup AND with free shipping
  • They use Paypal

But most of all I was excited to have another player trying to make Japanese skincare and makeup accessible abroad. While Korean beauty products have gone very mainstream in the past couple of years, Japanese products still have a ways to go towards achieving mass accessibility.

Lululun Face Mask Rich Moisture Type 32 Sheets Review

Having a skincare blog and instagram changes the way I consume skincare. If I were using sheet masks in a vacuum, I’d probably never even think of dropping $7 on a single sheet mask, regardless of how much I like the artwork, but being able to share (and preserve?) that artwork on Instagram somehow makes all the difference in the world.

Bulk packaged sheet masks, on the other hand, are about as Instagram-friendly as a box of tissues but they are functional and economical, which might be more important priorities for someone less invested in social media. Of the bulk-packaged masks I’ve tried so far, these ones from LuLuLun are by far the nicest. Let’s take a look: Continue reading

Dr.Ci:Labo Aqua-Collagen-Gel Enrich-Lift-Ex Review

Seeing “Dr.” in the name of a skincare product usually kills any interest I have in it. Not only is the product guaranteed to lack any skincaretainment value but I also don’t like it when brands pander to “serious skincare” seekers. There have been two exceptions to this rule: Dr. Jart, which pretty consistently churns out products that I like, and Dr.Ci:Labo, who’s MO of throwing every buzzy skin ingredient in their products makes me willing to overlook their name and their love of abusing punctuation.

Today we are going to look at one of their more popular products, the Aqua-Collagen-Gel Enrich-Lift-EX.

Swanicoco Fermentation Care Collection Review

In 2016, one of my favorite product discoveries was the Swanicoco Fermentation Snail Care Emulsion. I was blown away with not only its killer ingredient list but also its luxurious, silky texture. That’s why when Swanicoco reached out to me a few months ago and asked if I would be interested in testing and reviewing some other products, I immediately said yes! After some discussion on their different lines and my skin type, they recommended the Fermentation Care line, which I will be reviewing today!

This is a kind of super long review, so I set up a table of contents to make for easier navigation.

Keshimin Sealing Milk Review

There are certain products, whether due to packaging, branding, or hype, generate a lot of excitement. This is not one of those. However, I have a lot of lotions. If you check my empties posts, you’ll notice I rarely finish any, yet this bottle is nearly empty and I’m a little sad to see it go. I guess this means I liked using this a lot more than I’ve been conscious of and so I felt compelled to properly review it.

The Japanese name is 薬用ケシミン密封乳液. I’ve seen it referred to as Keshimin Sealing Milk and Milky Lotion.  Continue reading
